The review workshop of the National Seed Regulatory Frameworks in Consonance with the ECOWAS-UEMOA-CILSS Seed Regulation held from September 14 to 16, 2015 in Dakar (Senegal) was organized by the Task Force of WASP Seed Policy – CORAF / WECARD, and the Sahel Institute (INSAH / CILSS) with financial support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
The workshop aimed at supporting five Anglophone countries (The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria) of West Africa in the implementation of the regulation of harmonized regional seed to reach a regional common market of seeds achieved the following results:
• A clear strategy to facilitate the full implementation of ECOWAS seed Regulation C / REG.4 / 05/2008 by the participating Member States.
• A draft protocol / regulation imposing a national catalog of plant varieties and species for adoption by each Member State developed for validation in each Member State by the aforementioned seed system stakeholders.
• A draft protocol / regulation establishing a National Seed Committee (NSC) and the creation of a Support Fund seeds (SSCC), specific to each Member State developed for validation in each Member State by the abovementioned Seed system stakeholders.
• A draft protocol / Technical Regulations Regulation on empowerment, specific to each Member State developed for validation in each Member State by the aforementioned seed system stakeholders
