The Development Smart Innovation Through Research in Agriculture (DeSIRA) is an initiative of the European Union (EU) put in place in 2017 to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from a science and research perspective.

DeSIRA aims at contributing to climate-relevant, productive and sustainable transformation of agriculture and food systems in low and middle-income countries in West Africa. DeSIRA addresses multiples interconnected SDGs, and the total funding is estimated at €300 million. Overall, there are close to 14 DeSIRA initiatives across West and Central Africa, amounting to close to €70 million.
