The European Commission
The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union with 27member states located primarily in Europe. The European Commission, the executive body of the EU, is responsible for proposing legislation, to implement decisions to confirm the legality of the EU Treaty and to ensure the ongoing administration of the union. The Commission also manages the European Development Fund (EDF) and other financial sources to supportdevelopment cooperation between Europe and the ACP group.
DFAIT
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development of Canada (DFATD), formerly the CIDA, is the main agency responsible for assisting development in Canada. It is mandated to manage the support of Canada in international development and resources that they (Canada) allocate in an effective and accountable manner, inorder to achieve major and sustainable results. The country (Canada) responded positively to the CORAF/WECARD request, by way of their support of 10 million Canadian Dollars towards the implementation of their (CORAF/WECARD’s) Operational Plan.
World Bank
The World Bank is a vital source of financial and technical support for developing countries around the world. Their mission is to energetically and professionally fight poverty to achieve sustainable results and assist countries to look after themselves and control their environments, by providing resources, knowledge-transfer, capacity-building and establishment of partnerships in both the public and private sectors. Within the framework of the MDTF for CORAF/WECARD, the World Bank is responsible for managing on behalf of the Donors, the funds they allocate to CORAF/WECARD.
Le CORAF/WECARD
CORAF/WECARD, a sub-regional organisation for the coordination of agricultural research in 22 countries of West and Central Africa is the recipient of the MDTF, to implement their 2008-2013 Operational Plan. They are mandated to coordinate agricultural research, capacity strengthening of stakeholders and agricultural partners, knowledge management and advocacy for the mobilisation of resources.
