Disclosure of safeguard documents for the second stage of the first set of countries (Ghana, Mali and Senegal) implementing the West Africa Agricultural productivity Programme (WAAPP): In compliance with the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Safeguard Policies, the West and Central Africa Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF/WECARD) in collaboration with relevant authorities of the first set of countries (Ghana, Mali and Senegal)  implementing the West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme (WAAPP) coordinated by CORAF/WECARD, has completed an update of the Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF),  Pest management Plan (PMP) as well as an initial Resettlement Policy Framework (RPF) related to the implementation of the second phase of WAAPP in the respective countries. Subsequently, the updated ESMF and PMP as well as the initial RPF for the three countries are hereby being disclosed in conformity with World Bank policy on disclosure of information.

EVENTS

CORAF/WECARD STC developed a working strategy. From 1st  and 2nd  March 2012 in Cotonou, CORAF / WECARD STC members met to reflect on their work strategy and a new structural and functional mechanism for their organ. It was during a special retreat.

PSTAD: the steering committee met on 29 and 30 March 2012 in Accra to review the work plan and budget for 2012 for both DONATA and RAILS components. Members of the PSTAD Steering Committee chaired by Dr. Paco Sereme reviewed the progress and identify constraints in the implementation of this project.

COOPERATION

CORAF-AUSTRALIA: In the framework of the partnership with the Australian government, a delegation of CORAF/WECARD visited Australia from March 11 to 25 to have learn more about the cotton industry of Australia and its main stakeholders to draw the positive aspects that may be adopted in the cultivation of cotton in the C4 countries but also in other cotton producing countries of West and Central Africa.

TRAINING

Relations between researchers and the media reinforced through a training workshop. From 19 to 23 March in Abidjan, researchers, media specialists and managers of communications NARS West Africa and Central Francophone saw their capacities strengthened to better management of agricultural knowledge and facilitate the adoption of agricultural technologies.
