From 15 to 17 January 2014, an important delegation from the CORAF/WECARD Executive Secretariat organize a working mission to Niamey in the Niger. This mission initiated by CORAF/WECARD is part of the preparations for the 4th edition of the Agriculture Science Week of West and Central Africa and the 11th General Assembly of CORAF/WECARD which will be held in the Republic of Niger in June 2014.
The mission led by the Executive Director of CORAF/WECARD Dr. Harold ROY-MACAULEY, included four other officials at the Executive Secretariat. The objective of that mission was to make contact with officials of the National Institute of Agronomic Research of Niger (INRAN) and the National Council for Agronomic Research (CNRA) for the preparation and organisation of the 4th edition of the Agriculture Science Week for West and Central Africa and the 11th CORAF/WECARD General Assembly.
It is envisaged that the work of the 4th edition Agriculture Science Week of West and Central Africa and the 11th CORAF/WECARD General Assembly will take place over a period of five days with a main theme sub-divided in sub-themes strongly related to the 3N initiative « Nigeriens Feed Nigeriens » which is central to the 3N Initiative policy of Niger.
For a start, the CORAF/WECARD delegation paid a visit to the CNRA headquarters where it met with the CNRA Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdoulaye SOUMAMA GOURO and Officers of the INRAN and work continued at the General Directorate of INRAN.
It is to be noted that within the framework of the proper organisation of these events, the high Commissariat for the organisation of important events (COGE) is associated with INRAN in close collaboration with CORAF/WECARD. At the end of those tasks, the authorities in charge of agriculture were informed on the expectations and repercussions of the scientific week and General Assembly, and expert commissions were put in place such as to work with the CORAF/WECARD team for holding these two major events.
