The Scientific and Technical Committee (STC) is a body of the Institute whose role is to examine the scientific quality of the work and also the relevance of research programmes in connexion with the guidelines of agricultural policy. This year, the session which was opened on 2 November 2015 in the premises of the Research Cluster of Hann (PRH) was chaired by Dr. Modou MBOUP, the technical advisor and representative of Dr. Papa Abdoulaye SECK, Minister of Agriculture and rural equipment. The welcome address was delivered by Professor Aboubackry SARR, Chairman of the STC, followed by the speeches of Dr. Alioune FALL and Mr. Ngagne SENE, respectively CEO and Chairman of the Board of ISRA. After the official opening, an agreement was signed between ISRA and the University of Sine Saloum Elhadj Ibrahima Niasse (USSEIN).
During 05 (five) days of work, there will be a review of the implementation of the recommendations of the last CST and all programmes of activities of all the Institute’s structures will be scrutinized and validated for the year 2016. The agenda also included the high-level animations on the flagship projects, new or in progress. But the peculiarity of this session is the organisation of the “BAME Tuesday’ on the sidelines of the session work. The morning of this 3 November is dedicated to the event with the following theme: “Rice self-sufficiency by 2017, myth or reality? Challenges and opportunities, current situation and the means implemented”.
Several presentations from various stakeholders in the rice sector have marked the event, including that of the Director General of ISRA himself on the theme “Rice self-sufficiency by 2017: contribution of research”, and those of Mr. Saliou SARR, Honorary President of CIRIZ and Mr. Ousmane SY NDIAYE, Executive Secretary of UNACOIS.
