SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PhD STUDY IN AUSTRALIA
The Australian Government, in partnership with the Conseil Ouest et Centre Africain pour la Recherche et le Development Agricoles/West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF/WECARD), is offering a limited number of PhD-level Australian Development Scholarships commencing in January 2011. The scholarships are for study in Australia at Australian Universities although it is preferred that any research is undertaken in Africa. The priority countries of focus under the CSIRO - CORAF partnership are Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
Target Group:
- You are an agricultural researcher currently employed by an agricultural research organisation or an organisation which has agricultural research or agricultural research dissemination as part of its mandate.
- You want to undertake a PhD through an Australian Institution:
- in order to advance a field of study that is a formally recognised priority for your government; and
- that directly benefits existing, planned or desired research and development efforts of your employer.
- Ideally, you are proposing a field of study/research that:
- is a formally recognised priority for your government/employer;
- reflects both a national and regional priority in Africa; and
- is of direct relevance to the research or development objectives and country focus of the CSIRO - CORAF partnership being funded under the Australian Food Security Program in Africa.
- You have a clear vision for how you will use the knowledge gained and research undertaken through the PhD to improve policy and practice in your home country or region in the proposed field of study/research.

Applicants should submit the following documents to the address listed below:
- three completed application forms with the required attachments and supporting documents;
- a current curriculum vitae in English; and
- a completed IELTS application form (if English is not your first language).
Scholarships cover airfares to Australia, tuition fees, medical cover, a living allowance and a return airfare to your country of citizenship/residence in Africa in order to carry out fieldwork/research. Female applicants and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Failure to complete the required number (3) of application forms and submit all documentation requested will lead to automatic disqualification.
Study in Australia is subject to the successful applicant being issued with a visa by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
