Dr. Alioune Fall Awarded ‘Distinguished Alumnus’ of Michigan State University

The former CORAF Governing Board Chair, Dr. Alioune Fall, has been recognized as a ‘Distinguished Almumnus’ of Michigan State University (MSU).

Dr. Fall was recognized as a ‘Distinguished Alumnus’ of MSU since May 2, 2020 and, owing to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, he only received the distinction on May 19, 2022, during a symbolic ceremony held at the campus of Dakar American University of Science and Technology (DAUST).

The Executive Director of CORAF, Dr. Abdou Tenkouano, saluted the “exceptional career and experience” of Dr. Alioune Fall as he extended his congratulations to him.

He said: “Dr. Alioune Fall is one of the greatest figures of agricultural research and development in Africa. His exceptional career and experience are inspiring. Relentlessly, he has been working to improve the living conditions of African farmers.”

Dr. Alioune Fall was Chairperson of the CORAF Board of Directors from 2014 to 2018, a most challenging period in the organization’s life.

Thanks to his leadership, the organization undertook to develop a new Strategic Plan 2018-2027 and an Operational Plan 2018-2022, which were unanimously approved at the 12th CORAF General Assembly held in Dakar, Senegal, in April 2018.

“CORAF is grateful to Dr. Fall for the vital role he has played in the life of the organization and is proud to have had him as Chairperson of the Board of Directors,” said Dr. Tenkouano.

Holder of a PhD in agricultural engineering, Dr. Alioune Fall also served as Scientific Director and Director General of the Senegalese Institute of Agricultural Research (ISRA).

He is the current Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA).
