CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
Recruitment of a consultant to carry out a review of regulations and standards in the production of animal feed, poultry and fish in three (03) West African countries (Benin, Niger, Senegal)
Closing Date : 19 August 2021
CEI No. 25-2021
Projections show that consumption of poultry, meat, pork and eggs is increasing rapidly and is undoubtedly expected to increase six to seven times in West Africa by 2050. This growing demand for animal products in West Africa has resulted in recent years in an increase in demand and regional trade in animal feed in order to respond to the intensification of animal production methods and the seasonal reduction in feed availability.
The sale of fodder and crop residues has become a major source of income for farmers, and animal feed markets have sprung up in many towns in the West African Sahel in response to increasing populations of livestock in peri-urban areas and at the request of traditional and transhumant pastoralists who have become clients following years of drought. Feed factories have been set up to supply commercial feeds ranging from the simple processing of agro-industrial by-products to the production of compound feed. In West Africa, there is a large availability of crop residues and industrial by-products (stalks and branches of cereals, oilseed cakes, sorghum, maize, wheat, peanuts, soybeans, cotton seeds, sugar cane) and the development potential of fodder production in the region is very high. Quality feed is needed for increased production and improved animal productivity, and the regional feed market requires improved standardization and regulation.
It is in this context that CORAF wants to recruit an individual consultant to carry out a review of regulations and standards in the production of animal feed, poultry and fish in three (03) West African countries (Benin, Niger, Senegal)
